What was our patient profile in 2006/2007?

There were 89 births this year, a substantial increase on previous years, comprising 46 boys and 43 girls!

Of these 89 presentations, 25 were primigravida women (first time mothers) and 64 were multigravida women. The age of the mothers varied from 17 to 42 years of age. Nearly a quarter (24%) of our presentations were delivered by caesarean section with 13 being elective (planned) and 9 being emergency caesarean sections.

Our midwives conducted 95 home visits to support the mothers at home following delivery and to ensure the transition from hospital to home was as smooth as possible. The average length of stay in hospital for a maternity patient in Mansfield Hospital was 4.4.days.

In the acute hospital, we had 1686 admissions including 15 patients requiring palliative care and 18 people needing respite care. The increase in the frail aged person living alone and waiting for permanent residential aged care has contributed to the increase in the number respite patients. During the summer bushfires, the Hospital was able to provide additional support for 7 patients who required respite care.
