The Mansfield Hospital offers high quality residential aged care services through their high care nursing home, Buckland House, and low care hostel, the Bindaree Retirement Centre.
Our nursing home has 30 high care beds and the hostel has 40 low care (ageing in place) beds plus 2 unfunded respite beds. Bindaree also has a dementia specific unit.
It's always difficult to know where to start when you have consider residential aged care in Mansfield as an option for a family member or friend. Here are a few questions that might help to point you in the right direction:
How do I get someone on the waiting list for Buckland House or Bindaree?
The person requiring care must have an assessment performed by the Aged Care Assessment Service; you can be referred to this service by your local doctor. When you have the assessment paperwork, you will need to make an appointment to see the Hospital's Finance Manager and/or the nurse in charge of the nursing home or hostel. They will direct you in the steps to be taken to get your name on the waiting list.
How soon will the person get into the hostel or nursing home?
It is always very difficult to predict how long someone will be on the waiting list as this is dependent on someone leaving the facility or passing away. We do prioritise people according to their care requirements, home situation and multiple risk factors. We take into consideration the length of time someone has been on the waiting list but this is not a high priority.
Why do you admit non-Mansfield residents?
We are not able to discriminate between any person for any reason in relation to admission to Bindaree or Buckland House. People are prioritised using the criteria mentioned above, not because of where they live. With many more people moving to the district, it is understandable that they want to have their loved ones cared for closer to them. Being a national system, we also take people from interstate providing they have the mandatory assessment paperwork.
What does it cost?
Entry charges/accommodation bonds depend on the value of certain assets. Daily fees depend on your level of income. As of the 1st July 2005 , Centrelink will determine all entry charges/accommodation bonds and daily fees. Our Finance Manager can provide advice on how the system works in relation to the determination of charges and fees.
