The activities progamme in the hostel and nursing home are designed to maximize our residents' well-being, community links, social lives, and enjoyment of life. A team of eight qualified activities staff assist residents with their preferred activity from Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend support for special events. Some programmes that operate on a regular basis are indoorsports, painting and craft, bus outings, armchair travel,
bingo and cards, wheelchair walks, exercises, history/reminiscence groups, live music, gardening, happy hour, shopping, "This Is Your Life" celebrations, annual Bindaree holiday and fete, and parties. The community, students, children, and pet visitors are encouraged to join us, and we are rich in volunteer support. Pastoral carers, community visitors, Mansfield Garden Club, and general volunteers are part of the professional team that strives to meet resident needs and improve quality of life. They currently devote up to one hundred hours a week, in a variety of roles.
A key goal is to support people with dementia to live with dignity, security, and companionship in a home-like environment. Activities are designed to recognize individuality and remembered skills, and to involve families, staff, and the wider community in the social life of our residents.
The programme uses a range of equipment to assist residents enjoy life, communicate, and maintain interests and skills. Hi- definition audiovisual screens, digital frames and recorders, personal sound amplifiers, and our wheelchair hoist bus are a few examples.
Annual surveys, special surveys, resident monthly meetings, and relative meetings are utilized to ensure residents needs and preferences are being met. Bindaree also has its' own resident committee; and staff evaluate each activity yearly for quality control and continuous improvement.
